Desde hace muchos años, los comandos de Reales Marines, has cosechado victorias por todo el mundo para el imperio Británico; particularmente se formaron en 1664 para contener el avance de la flota Española o la piratería, entre otras funciones navales. Su insignia, habla por sí sola. El león y la corona concedidos por el rey George III en 1802 por méritos de guerra, denotan el regimiento real; el globo terráqueo rodeado de laurel, fue otorgado por sus éxitos y valentía en muchos rincones del mundo; el ancla indica que es un cuerpo de la armada, el título Gibraltar, adoptado por la batalla y posterior defensa de la roca y por último su lema “per mare per terram”, supuestamente utilizado desde 1775.
