A fine example of what happened to many helmets after the conflict, this US Firestone liner and FM shell have been put together to make a souvenir by a British serviceman.

Tengo el placer de presentar este M53 muy raro del conflicto de las Malvinas en 1982, repintado en los años 60 en verde IMARA y tiene correas de barbilla de reemplazo hechas con correas de tejido de 8 líneas correctas y remachadas en su lugar. Creo que el forro puede haber sido agregado cuando se recogió en 1982, ya que parece ser un patrón militar con S/C62 MARCELO CISNEROS escrito en él. Comprado en subasta y descrito como US M1. Claramente, un caparazón Linneman-Schnetzer (LS) estampado LS58-B37 del lote colocado en el Karel Doorman. I have the pleasure to present this very rare M53 from the Falklands conflict in 1982, repainted in the 60's in IMARA green and has replacement chinstraps made using correct 8 line weave webbing and riveted in place. I believe the liner may have been added when it was picked up in 1982 as it appears to be an army pattern with S/C62 MARCELO CISNEROS written on it. Purchased at auction and described as a US M1. Quite clearly a Linneman-Schnetzer (LS) shell stamped LS58-B37 of the batch placed on the Karel Doorman. This is the second example I have that came from the conflict, the other is also shown in this thread.

Al parecer, las unidades militares del ejército argentino tenían un sistema de reacondicionamiento ad hoc para rehacer sus cascos después de cada cambio de conscripto. Algunas unidades tuvieron la suerte de tener acceso a materiales especialmente diseñados para reajustar sus cascos, pero algunas tuvieron que 'arreglárselas y repararlas'. El 5º Regimiento de Infantería realizó una reparación particularmente distintiva antes del conflicto de las Malvinas en 1982, utilizando cinta de nailon de colores que se utilizó para el mecanismo de cuerda mecánica de las persianas enrollables. Todos los revestimientos que he visto con esta reparación de nailon son todos revestimientos de la era de Vietnam de EE. UU. It seems that Argentine army military units had an ad hoc refurbishment system to redo their helmets after each conscript change over. Some units were fortunate enough to have access to purpose made materials to re-fit their helmets but some had to 'make do and mend'. A particularly distinctive repair was done by the 5th Infantry Regiment prior to the Falklands conflict in 1982, using coloured nylon webbing tape that was used for the mechanical winding mechanism for roller blinds. Every liner I have seen with this nylon repair are all US Vietnam era liners. What is also apparent is that they made use of anything they could to personalise their helmets. Even the chinstraps are non standard with leather straps, green vinyl, made from kit bags and some with the red, white, blue nylon. I have some other RI5 helmets without the nylon straps for suspension, but again, they have non standard fixtures and fittings.

A used 4th pattern liner and a liner with custom made paratrooper 'A' straps. Both these helmets are British veteran bring backs from 1982.

Thank you all for your comments and after talking to Rob maybe he was mistaken that the other items belonged to Flores. They all came from the same position on South Georgia and we know that Flores was a conscript from S/C62 in BIM1, it is possible that the helmet is the only thing that was his. We know that there are a number of these liners in UK, with all being IMARA helmets, but all are very clean and almost unused. On South Georgia, this helmet may only have been worn a couple of times, so that explains the lack of use and many examples from the Falkland Islands came from the ARA stores unit near Stanley, again, these personnel would have worn these helmets very little and not in combat. I have not seen one that is exceptionally worn so I do not think that they were issued at all to BIM5 before or during the conflict in 82. Only my thoughts on the matter.
