Feliz Navidad Bob Hello everyone, I would like to re-open the controversy over the helmets with the painted vertical national colours. I have trawled through countless pictures to try and find one during the conflict but as yet conclusive proof eludes me. Having had 4 of these helmets in my hand and having examined each one with a critical eye, I am still of the opinion that they are genuine articles from 1982. My thesis centres around the fact that all are smooth green painted ex US shells and liners, korea era, the liners are all refurbished with Argentine webbing and sweatbands and the painted insignia on all is the same size and placement. For a faker to be making these, they would have to have access to an inumerable number of period FAA helmets, have a considerable knowledge but the crux question is, why would they create an insignia so far removed from what was regulation and hope to gain anything from it. There must be someone who served in the FAA in the conflict who has worn one of these helmets and would know what unit/s produced them and when. I have a couple more coming to me in the next few weeks from very different sources, both with provenance from veterans. I would not waste my money buying what I do not have considerable faith in finally resolving. But in the meantime. could the members here try their contacts to resolve this mystery. Happy Christmas, Bob
