I have marked and measured the stitch marks on the cover and remarkably they correspond to the dimensions of a American army ERDL trouser pocket. With the original seam running centrally through the area I am of the opinion that this cover was made from a pair of trousers. The material may well have been used for upholstery but no sofa or chair would require the small areas of stitching that we have on this cover.
The old stitching that is visible is consistent with that on other Argentine uniform items that I have.
The pocket size stitching is 27cm long, 19cm wide.
Having had much experience of the fading and wear on military trousers from use, I conclude that this cover was made from surplus military trousers.
